DIVING

Diving is the sport of jumping or falling into water from a platform or springboard, sometimes while performing acrobatics. Competitive divers are judged by a panel of individuals who rate their dives.

Diving from a springboard or platform engages the lower body in one quick movement.

  • The thighs, hips, gluts and lower back all have to be aligned for the perfect dive, and the sequence of motion is a calorie-burning activity.

  • Diving incorporates motions similar to gymnastics and dancing.

A competitive diver must develop body awareness, strength, and flexibility in order to be successful.

Platform: Platform diving requires a quick burst of energy as you jump off the edge of a fixed platform. In a seamless and smooth movement, divers perform their rotations in the air before the judges. This activity requires lower ample body strength to build up power for the jump, and typically requires consistent practicing of the movement to execute the dive correctly. This exercise can also engage the upper back, arms, shoulders, and abs.

Springboard: One of the most popular events in swimming competitions is springboard diving. Using specially designed diving boards that are secured at one end and rest over an adjustable fulcrum, the diver launches into the air and performs a series of rehearsed acrobatics. Springboard divers are exceptionally fit, with superior flexibility, strength and balance. The springboard adds additional height, speed and strength to the dives.

Synchronized Diving: Synchronized diving was adopted as an Olympic sport in 2000. Two divers form a team and perform dives simultaneously. The dives are usually identical; however, sometimes they may be exact opposites, in what is called a pinwheel. In these events, the diving is judged both on the quality of execution and the synchronicity - in timing of take-off, entry, height, and forward travel.

Tirta Taruna 66 have a lot of national divers who are coached by Harly Ramayani. They have been competing in national and international events to represent Indonesia.
